	The painting of the new narrowboat Measham has begun. This is a skilled and complex process, with four coats of paint, and associated rubbing down, taking place on most of the boat surfaces. Five coats if you include the original primer green the hull was delivered in.
	The sides have now received two coats of undercoat.  What you can see is the second coat, this will be lightly sanded before applying the first "gloss" top coat.
	The "bottom" had been blacked prior to delivery, and the other various undercoat colours are being applied ready for the top coats.

	It is the next day, and yesterday's second undercoat has been lightly sanded and the first top coat has been applied to the sides of the boat.
	It is difficult to obtain pictures that show the quality of the painting. But to give you an indication, what appears imperfections on the flat panel is in fact reflections of the cans of paint and other painting paraphernalia standing at the side of the poly tunnel, look carefully. The rear hatch cover is the first part of the boat to have finished paintwork, as it has now had two coats of gloss.
