The
run up to Christmas has been a very busy period for fitting out the
narrowboat Measham, with a number of operations being carried out as
a matter of urgency to allow other operations to be performed.
The painting needed to be substantially completed so that the
windows, portholes, skylights and ventilation "mushrooms"
could be installed.
And all of the above items needed to be completed so that the spray
foam insulation could be applied.

Yes
items could have been performed out of sequence but this means more
inconvenience and unnecessary work, which nobody likes to do, as
well as the increased cost it incurs.
At this time I am going to add little text, but just concentrate on
getting this page and the pictures it contains on to the website
before Christmas, so that you can see the progress that is being
achieved, everything is still on programme, which is nice.

The
masking is now complete, including the floor which is covered with
polythene. |

| The
spray form contractor has arrived, and is setting up the equipment. |

The
process consists of combining two "chemicals" which are
then sprayed under pressure on to the inside of the steel hull.
The chemicals react causing the foaming which then hardens into a
very tough foam. |

Already
to go, just fitting the spaying "head".
The combined pipe that you can see is in fact a combination of a
number of pipes that are all connected to the spray gun.
The is also an "air pipe" that goes to the operators helmet/mask
so that he can breathe clean air. |

a cold day, like the day of the work, a space heater is used to heat
the interior of the shell to dry and warm the steel and promote the
chemical reaction that is the hardening of the foam. |

Now
it is necessary to remove all the masking and trim off the excess
prior to fixing the interior paneling. |

The
boat is receiving its final top coats, of paint, the end of the
painting process is near.
Soon we will expose, not in the literal sense, the identity of the
painter, you will be surprised. |

The
painting is finished. It is a shame it was not a better day to take
the photographs, better ones will follow.
But I think, even on a dull day, you can see the high standard that
has been achieved.
Any hirer will be proud to "captain" any of the Ashby Boat
Company boats, as they are all repainted every winter for the
following season. |

The
roof painting finished, with floor paint, to leave a rougher and
more durable surface for walking on from time to time.
The skylight is fitted as is the ventilation "mushroom".
