THE CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM, WITH THE "HEART" BEING THE BOILER

Carlton was delivered with the hull already primed and the bottom blacked.

The fitting of the water pipes runs including the central heating system has been covered on a previous page.
Information specific to the central heating system is being covered on this page.

The radiators are gradually being fitted as work on the various sections of the boat progresses.
To the right is the radiator in the shower room.
To the right is the radiator that provides heat in the forward cabin with fixed double bed.

To the right is the provision of space for the fitting of the central heating boiler.
In a narrow boat all space is used to the maximum effect, and you will see that the toilet holding tank already occupies some of this space.
The tank will be boxed in, as you will see later, and the compact gas boiler will be fitted on top of the boxed in section.
Higher up in this section of the boat you will see the "behind" view of the feature alcove to the fixed double cabin.
This will make the fitting of the boiler more "interesting" for the Alde engineers, as you will see.
The boiler selected for Carlton is the,
Alde 3010 Compact Combi HF Boiler.
All our fleet that have central heating systems have Alde gas boilers, and Alde have suggested that their latest compact boiler design is a natural progression for the heating unit to be fitted to the new boat Carlton.
This is the latest compact high efficiency boiler from this company.
The unit has been fitted in many hundreds of applications in mobile homes, and on-site worker "rest" units.
This unit is now being fitted on narrow boats because of its increased efficiency, versatility and user friendly controls for narrowboat users.
In our case, the holiday makers crewing Carlton.

I will just add that this bolier fitting has the roof flue option installed, although it is fairly obvious from the images provided.

Further basic information on this heating unit will be added after it is supplied to me, (I do the photography and website).

Brief information on this heating unit has arrived from those who know about these things.
The Alde Compact 3010 High Efficiency Central Heating Boiler has the dimensions, 310mm. x 340mm. x 490mm., which allows fitting in cupboards (as above), seats and lockers.

It runs silently, with low carbon emissions, has low gas consumption but can produce upto 7.5kW.
The unit draws less than 0.4amps from the battery.
There is no annual service requirement.
It is a flexible unit, in that it can run on gas or electricity.
The boat engine can still be used to provide heating and hot water on the move.
Installation is easy, requiring simple plumbing, and "plug and play" cables.
(Drilling the hole in the boat roof seemed to be the difficult bit, and if somebody other than Alde is fitting this unit, remember to miss the steel cross members that provide strength to the roof.)

The small high efficiency radiator units, shown to the right, can be fitted in small compartments to provide an "airing cupboard" or "drying" space for wet outdoor clothing.
